Choosing a System
4/25/2008
What efficiency level is appropriate for a home? From lower utility bills to tax savings, there are many things that consumers should keep in mind. Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) is a standard measurement of efficiency, similar to miles per gallon ratings on a car. Buying an air conditioner with a higher SEER rating can help you save money each month on your utility bills. Some systems can even qualify for a government tax credit. The minimum efficiency available on new air conditioners, as of 2006, is 13 SEER, with some manufacturers offering up to 20 SEER and above. We can use a customized calculator to show how different air-conditioning systems can save you money over time, based on the weather patterns and utility costs in our area.

Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot

With temperatures and humidity on the rise, many are experiencing cooling problems. One of the most common seems to be high temperatures on the second floor. If you have a two story house, and do not have a zoned air conditioning system, try leaving the fan set to the on position on your thermostat. This will often lower the temperature difference between the first and second floor to a point that is tolerable. Please remember, if you do have problems, we are working to get to you as quickly and efficiently as we can.

It's Spring Cleanup Time!!!
4/12/2006
It is spring time (FINALLY) and while many folks are cleaning up around the house; here are a couple of important things to remember about your air conditioner or heat pump. 1. When you mulch, be careful near the outdoor unit. Try to keep mulch from piling up around the coil area of the unit; over time it can damage (or cover) the fins, causing a loss of efficiency and capacity. 2. Never use chemicals to clean your air conditioner. Any chemical agents stronger than dish soap can damage the delicate aluminum fins on the coil, or harm the finish on the unit.
